ぼくがまず注目したのは「dawn chorus」。朝方の鳥のさえずりの意味だろう。中学時代はほぼ3時間睡眠ですごしたぼく。「dawn chorus」は毎日、耳にしていた。 Merrium Websterが登録した定義は次の通り。 dawn chorus noun 「dawn chorus」はかわいい（＾＾）。 だけど「dawn chorus」なんて、とっくに辞書に載っていても良い語だと思う。Merrium Websterがいまごろ載せるということは、他の辞書にもないんだろうか？ と、思ったけど、やっぱりそんなことはなかった。OALDにすら載っている。 the ˌdawn ˈchorus 英和ならランダムハウス英和大辞典などにも出てる。 dáwn chòrus Merrium Websterが今まで載せなかったのはなんでなんだろうね。逆にそれが気になる。 ところで、日本語には、この「朝のさえずり」を指す特別な用語はあるのかな。絶対にありそうなんだけど、ちょっとわからない。ご存知の方、ぜひ教えてくださいませ。
